I have over 20 years of experience across multiple roles, companies and technologies.  A passion for learning is core to how I approach life. You are sitting at your desk coding away on a Friday afternoon and then all of a sudden your boss comes up and says, "The CIO just told me we need to move to the cloud". What do you think it would take to get us to move to the cloud? The CIO has a meeting with the executives next week on Tuesday and we need to present to him how we do that. Panic sets in as you see your dreams of a weekend relaxing by the beach goes up in smoke.
 
If you don't want that to be that person, you need to attend the Azure Data Platform Primer. How to host your data in Azure is not as simple as unplugging your server in your data center and plugging it into Azure. You certainly can do that, but you would not be taking advantage of everything that the cloud has to offer. Azure has many different forms of storage and services to serve that data up to your consumers. There are potentially multiple products that could fill your needs so you need to understand all of them so you can make the best choice.
 
In this fast-paced, demo-heavy session we will go over all the different technologies that comprise the Azure Data Platform. We will build data sources in all of them and talk about the pros and cons of all of them. By the end of this session you will be able to confidently answer your boss and be the hero that everyone knows you are at work.
 
The session will cover the following technologies at a 100-200 level, enough for you to be comfortable with the technology and know when you might want to use it.

- Azure Data Lake Storage
- Azure Table Storage
- Azure SQL Database
- SQL Server Managed Instance
- Virtual Machines
- CosmosDB
- Azure SQL Data Warehouse
 
After this session you will be prepared to have discussions about all the components of the Azure Data Platform and know what solutions might be right for your move to the cloud.

 What should I bring to the event?
There will be a lot of information presented at the event so you will likely need something to take notes. If you have a laptop with an Azure Subscription setup you can try out some of the services that will be presented during the session. However, this is not required for the seminar.
