AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is an 8-hour in-person class, following an online preparation component, designed to relate physiology to essential fetal heart rate monitoring theory and skills in intrapartum clinical practice. It uses a nursing model to integrate assessment tools of instrumentation, decision making and communication skills.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to:

  • Interpret fetal heart rate monitoring using NICHD terminology within a safety culture framework of interdisciplinary teamwork
  • Describe clinical interventions and related maternal-fetal physiology to optimize fetal oxygenation
  • Demonstrate collaborative communication in the perinatal setting
  • Demonstrate common perinatal procedures related to fetal monitoring

CLASS PREPARATION (Pre-work)

Participants are required to complete 4+ hours of online pre-work to be admitted to the in-person class. Pre-work MUST be completed at least 24 hours before your scheduled in-person class.

*** Each participant will need the individual key code that comes with the UNOPENED/UNUSED purchased student pack to be able to complete the pre-work/attend the class and get their certificate and CEUs/CMEs!!!

  • Participants must purchase their own student packets (For LPCH Stanford Maternity Antepartum and L&D Staff, books will be provided. Please pick up your copy of the workbook from your unit nurse educator/CPQS.)
  • Packet fees are separate from the course fee. Course fee has been updated to reflect this new process.

TARGET AUDIENCE

AWHONN’s Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring Course is an excellent interdisciplinary course for perinatal registered nurses. This course assumes the learner has previously completed entry-level/basic fetal monitoring education. It is designed for perinatal clinicians who use fetal heart monitoring in the intrapartum setting.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) is an accredited continuing education provider by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC) and by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), Provider #CEP580. AWHONN will award 11.25 nursing contact hours to nurses who attended this program in it's entirety and complete an evaluation. We urge you to be aware of the continuing education requirements of your own state of board of nursing, especially for those states in which CE is mandatory.

CANCELLATION and REFUND

  • FULL REFUND for cancellations at least 2 weeks prior to course date.
  • PARTIAL REFUND for cancellations less than 2 weeks prior to course date. A $35 cancellation fee will be deducted from the total amount you have paid.
  • NO REFUND for cancellations less than 5 days prior to course date.
  • For SCH Employees: NO SHOWS or cancellations on the day of class are considered unexcused absences. Managers will be notified. A medical note may be required in the event of illness or medical emergencies.
  • Cancellation by CPEI: Schedules, venues and details are subject to change and cancellation. Registered participants will be provided with as much advance notice as possible if this should occur. If CPEI cancels class, full refund will be given.
