Learn about avalanche terrain, weather, decision-making and rescue

The GNFAC along with the Friends of GNFAC and MSU Outdoor Recreation are sponsoring this course. Classroom: Pre recorded lectures will be sent to you upon registration. <ul><li>Intro to Avalanches and Avalanche Terrain</li><li>Mountain Weather and the development of a seasonal snowpack</li><li>Decision Making and the Human Factor</li><li>Avalanche Rescue </li></ul>Field participants must watch recorded lectures prior to their field session. There will be a LIVE Q&amp;A January 20 at 7:00pm via ZOOM. Each presenter will host a summary of their presentation and host a short question and answer session on each topic. Field Session: ONE FIELD DAY SESSION is included with tickets. Students can choose from the following: Ski sessions will be hosted at Bridger Bowl from 9:15am-3:00pm. <ul><li>Friday January 21</li><li>Saturday January 22</li><li>Sunday January 23</li><li>Saturday January 29</li><li>Sunday January 30</li></ul>**Participants in the field course should have basic skiing and snowboarding skills with the appropriate equipment to negotiate “groomed” intermediate ski runs. Please bring skins or snowshoes for uphill travel if you have them. Although not required, an avalanche rescue beacon, shovel, and probe will be very helpful for the field session. *Pre-registration is REQUIREDCost: $40.00 - Proceeds go to the Friends of the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center and includes and BCA Slope Meter and ECT cord. If you are interested in the online portion only or to register without a donation, please email friendsofgnfac@gmail.com. **We will be following current CDC guidelines and Bridger Bowl&#x27;s policy for COVID-19 for the field sessions. Please have a face covering on hand for your field day. **Snow Sense is a text that focuses on the critical terrain, snowpack, weather, and human factors that allow avalanche accidents to happen. A must-have for anyone who works or plays in avalanche country. No longer in print, the GNFAC has dropped off Snow Sense books at Uphill Pursuits ($11.95) in Bozeman for any students or community members interested.
