Depth Writing is a holistic creative practice, underpinned by Jungian psychoanalysis, that uses writing & imagination to support transformative growth. The focus is on process, rather than outcome, and on what comes up in the writing, rather than craft, skills and technique. This means that you don’t need any previous writing experience to benefit from the workshop and there will be no pressure to read anything out. All you need is a spirit of curiosity and adventure!
The Autumn Depth Writing workshop will be a chance to reflect the 'fruits' of your achievements over the year so far alongside the alchemical gold we see everywhere in the turning of the leaves.
Located at the Hebden Bridge Hostel, you'll find yourself in a cosy and welcoming space, perfect for fostering creativity and connection. It will be a relaxed chance to press pause on the busyness of life and come together with others to connect, reflect, share and write in a friendly and supportive environment with the gentle guidance of Dr Rachel. The workshop will include a series of short writing exercises of between approximately ten and twenty minutes, small group discussions and, most importantly, tea & cake.
A note about self-care
Although depth-writing is therapeutic, it’s not therapy so you are encouraged to be responsible for your own experience, go at your own pace and engage with the material at a level that feels right for you.

About Dr Rachel
Rachel Newsome, PhD is a Jungian-based writer and teacher. She has a background in both the media and academia as a former Editor of the arts & culture magazine Dazed & Confused and a lecturer with twenty years’ experience teaching creative arts subjects, respectively. Rachel is passionate about sharing her experience & expertise with others in an accessible, inclusive and heart-centred way. She leads numerous depth-writing courses, workshops & retreats and writes Depth Writing With Dr Rachel on Substack.
