Authority Data on the Web
Date and time
Description
IFLA World Library and Information Congress
82nd IFLA General Conference and Assembly
Satellite Meeting
Authority data provide knowledge organization that helps the Web of Data work as it should.
The VIAF® (Virtual International Authority File) combines multiple name authority files into a single OCLC-hosted name authority service. The goal of the service is to lower the cost and increase the utility of library authority files by matching and linking widely-used authority files and making that information available on the Web. VIAF has become an important hub in the Semantic Web.
This ½ day event will include an overview of VIAF – a service that relies significantly on the cooperation of libraries from around the world -- and presentations of use cases that illustrate VIAF’s value.
For additional information, please see the event page and schedule.
