Author Study with Kwame Alexander and Mo Willems!
Virtual Reading, Book Talk, Craft Lesson and Q&A
We’re kicking off the Library Summer Reading season with a special Author Study event on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 1:00pm ET / 10:00am PT, featuring Kwame Alexander and special guest, Mo Willems!
Our 45-minute virtual livestream session is a unique opportunity to engage with and learn from not one but TWO #1 New York Times best-selling authors!
Kwame will read from Surf’s Up and speak with Mo about his approach and process as an author, illustrator, animator, and playwright. We’ll also do a mini-craft lesson, followed by a LIVE Q&A, taking questions from select attendees in the chat!
Mo’s bestselling picture books have received numerous awards, including three Caldecott Honors (Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!; Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale; Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of Mistaken Identity). His celebrated Elephant and Piggie early reader series, which has been awarded two Theodor Geisel Medals and five Geisel Honors.
Mo was also the inaugural Kennedy Center Education Artist-in-Residence (2019-2022), and continues to collaborate in creating fun new stuff involving classical music, opera, comedy concerts, dance, painting and digital works with the National Symphony Orchestra, Washington National Opera, Ben Folds, Yo-Yo Ma, and others.

45 minutes.
Most Author Study events include a reading, book talk, craft talk, and live Q&A; however, please refer to the event listing for specifics and further details.
Our June 1 event is recommended for elementary & middle school grades, but all grade levels are welcome. Audience will always be noted in each Author Study listing, specific to that event.
While we are not asking for questions ahead of time, attendees are certainly welcome (and encouraged!) to have students prepare questions in advance, which can be submitted during the livestream via the Zoom Webinar chat.
Following the event, a curriculum worksheet recapping the mini-craft lesson will be provided via email to registered attendees.
We generally set aside 15 minutes for the live Q&A portion. Some questions require more detailed answers, but we will address as many as we can during this time frame.
Author Study is a virtual, interactive, LIVE, registered event; recordings of the livestream will not be available for future viewing. The event may not be recorded by participants due to copyright.
