Aperçu

A conversation and book reading of "To Have and Have More" with author Sanibel, in conversation with Josh Lora.

Told through the eyes of a Korean girl adopted into a wealthy white family, this darkly funny debut explores casual racism, privilege, and the complexities of friendship.

Sanibel earned her MFA from The New School and her BA in classical studies from the University of Pennsylvania. She was awarded a 2023 residency by the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts and was a semi-finalist for the 2022 George Bennett Fellowship from Phillips Exeter Academy. Her work has been published in New York magazine, Elle, Air Mail, Literary Hub, and more. She resides in New York City. Follow Sanibel on Instagram and TikTok @Sanibel.Ink.

Josh Lora (@tellthebees) is a writer, content creator, and lifelong reader. Originally interested in the literary fiction corner of TikTok, Josh began posting sociological explorations of reality television and culture that spoke to fans who gravitated towards highbrow analysis of their "guilty pleasures". Utilizing his MS in Social Research, Josh identifies cultural shifts and applies theoretical frameworks to both popular media and larger societal trends. He continues to try to read 100 books a year (never successfully) and is working on a novel about money and friendship. Josh uses he/him pronouns and discusses books, culture, and sociology on TikTok and Substack.
