About this event

  • 3 hours

Are you desperate to make positive changes in Austin? Are you tired of watching racist systems play out again and again, but have no clue how to stop it? Well, the best tool for ending oppressive cycles is understanding where and how they began. Austin Compounding Structural Racism is a course designed to provide that historical perspective and illustrate how structural and systemic racism are infused across our society today.

During Training, you will:

  • Explain the history of racial inequities in Austin
  • Identify ways that structural and systematic racism affect the nonprofit sphere
  • Describe how inequities are perpetrated and what effect they have on marginalized communities

While there are dozens of resources documenting structural racism in Austin, this course has brought them altogether for a comprehensive view of a system dating back to the founding of Texas as a US state. With this information, we invite you to join a movement hundreds of years old, started by Black, Indigenous, and Immigrant communities across the United States who carved rivers of hope out of bone-dry despair.

Who’s Invited:

  • New nonprofit board members who want to serve their organizations well
  • Existing nonprofit leadership who are seeking a greater understanding of how racial inequities influence the nonprofit sphere
  • Nonprofit staff members who want a stronger grasp of how to create an inclusive and diverse workplace
  • Staff seeking change within their organizations
  • Activists and Community Organizers working to undo internalized racism in BIPOC communities
