History in Cupertino is being made every day and is constantly evolving. Our purpose is to capture and share this history with our community.We are a nonprofit organization.

<h1>Augmented Reality and XR Storytelling--Everyone Welcome!</h1><p> </p><h2>Description: The Cupertino Historical Society and Museum, the Chinese Historical Society of America, and the Office of Mayor Darcy Paul are exploring the future of representing personal stories and community histories through new forms of media and XR engagement.</h2><p> </p><h3>Specifically, this project builds off of recent success by the Chinese Historical Society of America (CHSA) in developing XR storytelling project in partnership with members of the community. The CHSA mission is to collect, preserve, and illuminate the history of the Chinese in America by serving as a center for research, scholarship and learning. In response to Covid 19 CHSA has begun building on its award-winning exhibition program by pivoting to developing new experiences in augmented and virtual reality. To achieve this CHSA has been awarded numerous government an private foundation grants, one of which is a $150,000 grant from the National Archives and Records administration, a very competitive application, to produce A People&#x27;s History - a series of AR and XR workshops directed by some of the industry&#x27;s leading theorists and practitioners. </h3><h3>The mission of the Cupertino Historical Society and Museum is to preserve and share Cupertino&#x27;s past, strengthen our sense of community, and make Cupertino history available for all. CHSM is owned and operated by the Cupertino Historical Society, a private, nonprofit educational organization, established in 1966. The Cupertino Historical Society and Museum (CHSM) is the city’s oldest (and only) cultural organization whose purpose is to preserve and present Cupertino’s unique history. We have been bringing stories of our past to the community, our schools, and other organizations for over half a century.</h3><p> </p><h2>On August 28 from 1-5 pm, CHSM, CHSA and the Office of Mayor Darcy Paul will host a preliminary workshop on XR storytelling and 3-D object scanning. Members of the public will be encouraged to bring a personal object they wish to scan using iOS lidar tools such as iPads and iPhones, and then will be taught how to volumetrically scan the object, upload it to an AR platform and share it socially. The goal is to work with intergenerational communities and underserved youth to teach the public to scan the objects that tell our personal histories as an effort to learn about digitization, storytelling and XR engagement. </h2><h2>All volumetric scanning will be accomplished explicitly using the lidar technologies embedded within iPhones and iPads. </h2><h3>PARTICIPANTS: Please, bring a Mac or Windows laptop, if you have one. Support can be in the form of donations of funds, goods, or services. All sponsors and logos will be included in all marketing for the two-year timeframe of this project. Funders include the National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, California Humanities, California Arts Council, San Francisco Office of Economic Workforce Development, Grants for the Arts and others.</em></h3>
