Presentation by Jon Stump, a member of 3AP. It will cover the equipment, methodology, and tips and tricks for shooting the Milky Way, Meteor Showers, and more with just a DSLR camera and lens - no telescope required.


Feel free to bring your camera along with you and ask questions.


After the presentation, weather permitting, there is a Star Party at Hillman State Park (Model Airplane Field Burgettstown, PA 15021), where you can take your camera out and try to apply what you've learned.

Do I need to bring my camera?

No. It is not required to bring your camera. You can if you want to ask specific questions or get assistance navigating the menus.

Will this event be outside or inside?

This event will be held inside the Mingo Creek Observatory in the Planetarium. We will hold the event rain or shine.

Who is this event geared toward?

This event is geared towards anyone who is interested in learning how to photograph the night sky, the Milky Way core, Meteor Showers, the Moon, or the Sun with their camera or are looking to understand the equipment/methodology used. The presentation is not a buying guide for specific equipment.

Is there handicap parking?

Yes! We have limited handicap parking by the front door of the observatory.
