Katrina and Tracy, the founders of WWFC, are here to answer any questions you may have about applying to this program!

Women’s Weekend Film Challenge (WWFC) is hosting our second virtual pilot accelerator to boost the representation of women in TV.

Through our accelerator program, we read hundreds of applications to select 6 to 8 fellows with strong, completed pilots that center women’s stories. These fellows will be vetted by our panel of prestigious judges including Anita Kapila (executive producer, “Strays”), Leigh Davenport (creator, “Queenie”), Tracey Deer (executive producer, “Mohawk Girls”), Felischa Marye (creator, “Bigger”), Valentina Garza (co-executive producer, “True Lies”), Chelsea Devantez (co-executive producer, “Not Dead Yet”), Nicole Mirante-Matthews (co-executive producer, “The Walking Dead”) and Nikita T. Hamilton (executive story editor, “A Million Little Things”) and receive access to a library of select virtual workshops from the Women’s Weekend Film Challenge virtual workshop series.

Last year’s program was a great success: We set up a total of 63 meetings for our fellows with HBO, Netflix, Warner Bros, Comedy Central and many more, and 75% of those meetings ended with a request to hear the full script. Several execs told us how impressed they were with the fellows and their pitches, saying they were better prepared than many of the meetings they typically take. Since the accelerator, two of the 2021 fellows have gotten staffed; two have become mentees to showrunners; one has become a writers assistant; and several have gotten representation.

The 6-8 chosen fellows will attend a free, three-week intensive training program on pitching and polishing their pilots. The fellows will then have the opportunity to pitch to major studios, production companies and producers, including HBO, Netflix, Fabel Entertainment, Yes, Norman and more (to be announced)!

If you're considering applying for this program and have questions that aren't answered on our website, FilmFreeway page or FAQ page, make sure to attend this event.

There is an application submission fee discount for all who attend this event.

ABOUT WOMEN'S WEEKEND FILM CHALLENGE

Women's Weekend Film Challenge (WWFC) works for gender equity by creating opportunities for women to bring their leadership, talents, and stories to the forefront of the film industry. WWFC places professional filmmakers on crews to write, shoot and edit a short film in one weekend and provides top-of-the-line equipment, insurance and workshops. This career-building opportunity is free for participants.

Since its first challenge in January 2018, WWFC has worked with over 900 women to produce 36 short films, which have been accepted to more than 100 festivals. This grassroots, bi-coastal movement combats the gender imbalance of the film industry by providing an intensive networking experience and telling women's stories on screen.

As a response to COVID-19, WWFC launched a popular virtual workshop series featuring Hollywood powerhouses in every role of production, such as Elle Johnson (co-showrunner, "Self Made"), Kasi Lemmons (writer/director, "Harriet"), Catherine Hardwicke (director, "Twilight"), Alma Har'el (director, "Honey Boy"), DeMane Davis (showrunner, "Queen Sugar"), Leslye Headland (co-creator, "Russian Doll"), Terilyn Shropshire (editor, "The Old Guard"), Alice Wu (director, "The Half of It") and many more.

WWFC is launching its episodic accelerator to help emerging writers advance their careers and increase the representation of women and non-binary people in television. This program is geared toward writers with strong, completed pilot scripts who lack the industry connections to sell their series or break into the writers room.
