We’re excited to tap these online offerings as a direct response to community need and to support in a collective visioning of a cooperative, post-COVID future.

How to Entertain Young Ones: A Children’s Story Hour
Great for families! Elisa Kleven, the author/illustrator of "Hiro's Hats" will facilitate a story time and art lesson/craft project for children using simple materials to make a snow monkey. The story is for children ages 3-8, but any age will enjoy the presentation as Elisa shares a wonderful artist perspective.

Wild Swans Publishing Cooperative is a publishing venture that is also a social endeavor run on the principles of democracy and equality.

How to Begin A Resilient Home-Making Practice with Soul Sister Screenprinting
With urban dwellers affected by the shelter-in-place period, members at Soul Sister Screenprinting have been impacted by a severe halt to their printing services. Based in Oakland, collective members have adapted their maker skills to suit the needs of the times, and shifted their focus to support the imperative move towards food sovereignty. Participants will leave with an understanding of how to grow their own food and garden in their homes--no backyard required!

Soul Sister Screenprinting is a collective of social-justice focused, womxn artists and educators committed to supporting creative outlets in the Oakland community.

Craving a custom pizza while sheltering in place? Find out how you can easily make your own at home with this live session! Joseph Serrano and Rendell Boguiren, founding members of A Slice of NY will lead participants in an online tutorial for simply, fresh, and at-home pizza-making.

In 2017, A Slice of NY transitioned to a worker cooperative in order to achieve their goal of being a progressive Bay Area business--one that supports its employees, the community, and provides great food and service. Membership is open to all employees and is completely optional.
Joseph is the Chair and Treasurer of the Board and leads the ASONY Finance and Employee Benefit Committee, and Ren is the Secretary and leads the Culture and Accountability Committee. These members make up over 18 years of business knowledge and experience at ASONY.

How to Maximize Nutrition and Make the Most of Every Ingredient with Three Stone Hearth
Join member-owner Linda Kallenberger for a workshop on nutrition and the integrity of a local food system. You’ll sign off with an understanding of how to make your own broth, pickle your foods, and adopt practices of nutrient-dense eating.
Three Stone Hearth was the nation's first Community Supported Kitchen. They are informed by the values of Earth, Health and Heart, represented by the three stones of the ancient hearth form found around the world. Visit them at your local Berkeley farmers’ market, or stop by in late June/early July when they re-open their doors to their kitchen.

Empowering communities through employee ownership with Project Equity
How might the co-op movement apply to you in a post-COVID reality? Join Project Equity teammembers Eric Medrano and Miyaka Cochrane in a short presentation about local Bay Area businesses that have made the transition to employee ownership, the future of equitable business models, and an open Q&A about how you can tap into the power of cooperatives.

Project Equity is a national leader in the movement to harness employee ownership to maintain thriving local business communities, honor selling owners’ legacies, and address income and wealth inequality. Headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, Project Equity works with partners around the country to raise awareness about employee ownership as an exit strategy for business owners, and as an important approach for increasing employee engagement and wellbeing.

The BSCAA is an award-winning 501(c)(3) organization of more than 750 co-op alumni, that organizes events for alumni, raises money to support the BSC and its alumni, and advises BSC staff and student leaders. Co-op alumni have donated more than $2 million to the BSC, contributing to seismic safety, disabled access renovations, IT upgrades, and more.
