About this event

Ashtanga Yoga @ Soul Dimension

Ashtanga Yoga, also referred to as Patanjali's Eight Limbs of Yoga, is an ancient spiritual practice from India that strengthens, balances and harmonizes the energies of the body/mind/spirit, and progressively prepares the practitioner to attain to high states of spiritual awareness, inner contentment and Self-Realization.

In this class you will be guided toward awakening your mind/body/consciousness to a new level as you learn to practice meditation in motion. Each Zoom class begins with either a short question and answer period or teaching where you will learn about yoga, followed by focused breathing (pranayama), opening prayers in Sanskrit, then the core asana practice. The class ends with relaxation and a closing prayer in Sanskrit.

Every Wednesday 90min Zoom Class

Amrit, Kripalu and Ashtanga Yoga

The Amrit/Kripalu Yoga practice is a form of Ashtanga Yoga created by Yogi Amrit Desai. The practice is inspired by his own spiritual awakening through the guidance of his teacher, Swami Kripalu.

The method is a complete and integrated practice of the eight limbs of yoga. It will guide you toward cultivating a deeper conscious connection with your body/mind/spirit, as well as teach you how to integrate the energy awakened during your practice.

In this class you will learn and practice Patanjali's 8 limbs of yoga. For your benefit, I recommend you consider doing a little research to have some frame of reference and basic understanding of the following:

  • Yama: universal ethics
  • Niyama: personal observances
  • Asana: physical postures
  • Pranayama: breath
  • Pratyahara: withdrawal of the senses
  • Dharana: concentration
  • Dhyana: meditation
  • Samadhi: tranquility, spiritual illumination, union in one’s Divine Source

What To Expect

You will learn the Amrit/Kripalu Method of Yoga to refine, build and strengthen your understanding and foundation in an authentic yoga practice that will guide you toward self-understanding, love and wisdom.

You will be encouraged to access and explore the deepest levels of body, mind and spirit with the integrative practices of heart focused intention, breathing (pranayama), meditative awareness, and conscious integration.

You will learn how to balance your mind, body and consciousness with the first and second half of a posture and/or a posture sequence, where you transition from an active state of “doing” a posture, to a relaxed state of “being” present and feeling the effects of a posture or posture sequence.

We will work primarily with the Amrit posture sequence, gentle vinyasa flows, and explore extended posture holding times. You will learn to consciously encounter your "edge" of body and mind to release deep tensions and holding patterns that may be held on a physical, mental and emotional level. This practice gradually liberates and restores the natural flow of the vital life force energy (pranavidya) and guides you toward an awakening of your consciousness, your life and energy to a higher level of well-being and inner contentment.

Each class begins with a short question and answer period where you will learn about yoga, followed by breathing, mudras and opening prayers in Sanskrit. The class ends with relaxation and a closing prayer in Sanskrit.

"Sylvie has shown me that there is so much more to yoga than the postures, or the physical aspect of yoga. Studying with her I have not only gotten stronger and more flexible but I have learned a great deal about yoga philosophy, the Eight Limbs of Yoga and the spiritual foundations of this practice. Her extensive studies in a number of other countries seem to be woven into each yoga class she teaches. For me personally, it’s helped to bring the spiritual principles of yoga into my everyday life. I think there are very few yoga instructors today who do this kind of teaching.”

- Liz

Sylvie is not your typical yoga teacher. She brings so much more to the table! Her depth of knowledge in the practice of yoga, breath work, meditation, energy work and yoga philosophy, all comes into play with each session. My life has been enriched with her teachings and my day so improved after a class. Thank you Sylvie."

- Linda

"Sylvie has gifted me for many years (nearly 20) with her consistent teaching, encouraging me to focus inward with non-judgemental awareness. Her gifts are many and she imparts them freely with calmness and compassion. My practice with her is my North Star and I feel the grace of her teaching daily as I navigate my spiritual journey.."

- Sarah

"Sylvie's yoga classes are excellent, but they go far beyond the asana postures that most yoga classes focus on. She offers deep insights into the science and philosophy of mind, and you always walk away with a new perspective on whatever issues you might be going through. 10/10 highly recommended."

- Jeffrey
