MBI conducted design, bid, and construction support services to improve four (4) sites that are integral to the UCSD Scripps Institue of Oceanography Seawater Pumping System that provides water to all the SIO seawater labs, NOAA facilities, and the Scripps Birch Aquarium. The seawater pumping system at SIO has been improved and band-aided for the past 80 years. This is its first major upgrade in 50 years. Three (3) pump stations and several storage tanks make up the system. The main improvement is to upgrade system controls from pneumatic to new digital controls and integrate into their campus wide JCI Metasys BMI system. The project also consists of tank replacement, sand filter replacement, pump replacement, civil site improvements, and various mechanical and electrical upgrades.
