Permutation-based Multiple Testing with R

Livio Finos DPSS, University of Padua, Italy
The last decades have seen a renaiscance of the permutation tests in life science, that is Medicine, Biology, Genetics, Neuroscience, Psychology and other fields. The charme of the permutation approach relies on the mild assumptions that, on the same time, guaranty exactness and asymptotic optimality. A further advantage is its intrinsic ability to deal with the dependence among tests; this permits the definition of very powerful multiple testing procedures.
The workshop will introduce the theoretical bases of univariate and multivariate permutation tests, with special attention devoted to the implications on multiple testing. Each content is presented through practical examples and the analysis with software R (and library flip) is run during the class.
The participants should be familiar with R programming and bring their own laptops, with the latest version of R together with the "flip" library installed (the latest version will be uploaded on CRAN few days before the workshop). The use of R Studio is also encouraged. A wireless connection to the Internet will be provided.
