The Embassy of Portugal is showing “Terra Firme/Terra Fragil,” “Firm Earth/Fragile Earth,” by Elizabeth Casqueiro. The artist is fascinated by the intricate interplay between nature, the built environment, and the individual self. Her work seeks to explore and capture the ways in which these three worlds intersect and interact, shaping the spaces we inhabit, the experiences we have within them, and the people we become. In her paintings, she seeks to find the harmony in these seemingly disparate elements and to celebrate the ways in which they are woven together in our lives. Join the Heurich House featuring work by graduate architecture students from George Washington University Corcoran School of the Arts & Design. Connect with the students, who together with the Heurich House Museum’s education and preservation teams, will challenge how you interpret and interact with design. Design has the power to change more than just a physical space, it also transforms how you feel and think. What happens when you take historical architecture and modernize it with new technologies and design elements? The students spent their fall 2023 semester reimagining details in the Heurich House and interpreting them with a modern lens. Enter into the museum’s front hall and engage in conversation with Jenna, the museum's Curator & Education Director to learn about the historic craftsmanship that served as inspiration for the students. View the students’ models on two floors of the historic home and interact with the students who will share their inspiration, research, and process. IA&A at Hillyer invites the general public to the opening reception for newly selected artists: James Brown Jr., Dawn Whitmore, and Sean Riley. All three solo artists were selected from Hillyer's Annual Call for Proposals which was released in July 2023. Join the artists in celebrating this momentous occasion, while extending your arts experience during the art walk.

The Middle East Institute Arts and Culture Center invites you to explore its latest exhibition, The Sea Of Life: Modern and Contemporary Art from the Kingdom of Bahrain. Co-curated by Bahrain-based Hayfa Aljishi and MEI Arts and Culture Center Director Lyne Sneige, the exhibition features fourteen artists spanning different generations and art forms exploring their connection to their natural and built environment through painting, photography, sculpture, video and installation. The thirty featured artworks offer a glimpse into the legacy of Bahrain’s pioneering artists, the evolving arts scene and the ways in which younger generations are exploring new artistic expressions. The Museum of the Palestinian People invites you to attend First Friday as we continue to shed light on the ongoing tragedy unfolding in Gaza and the West Bank. You will have the opportunity to learn about the history, culture, and arts of Palestine. And a Palestinian docent will be present from 6-7 pm to answer any questions you may have. We also welcome you to view our two temporary exhibits: “The Gaza Pop-up,” our most recent addition to the museum, seeks to visually portray the losses endured in Gaza through a multi-media display. Our primary exhibit, “Huna al Quds,” portrays the cultural and artistic life in Jerusalem during the British mandate. Light refreshments will be served. The National League of American Pen Women will be welcoming visitors to its gallery, featuring works by artists Leo Calisaya, Mamani Mamani, and Timoteo Murphy. Come and enjoy this eclectic presentation of fine art at the NLAPW, a membership organization for women writers. The NLAPW is located at 1300 17th Street NW.

Studio Gallery presents five brand new exhibits this February by local artists. “Heal” is a Fellows Group Exhibit on the upper level of the gallery. Featuring Fellowship artists Olivia Bruce, Amity Chan, Skyler Henry, Mallory Kimmel, and Omari Wilson, “Heal” is curated by Atiya Dorsey and focuses on identity-centered healing practices. “Subtleties of Paint” by Chris Chernow and “Figments of the Untamed,” by Wayne Paige are located on the lower level of the gallery and are curated by Adah Rose Bitterbaum. In the Garden Gallery, “What Human Right is there to Food?” by Iwan Bagus and “Grief” by Suzanne Goldberg are featured. These exhibits are curated by Deborah Addison Coburn and Miriam Keeler. Synergy & Serenity proudly concludes the residency of Brandon Slewion, a local DC artist with the unveiling of the captivating exhibition titled, “The Scenic Route.” This exhibition serves as a visual narrative, taking viewers on an evocative journey through the artist's postpartum experience – transcending not only into fatherhood, but also navigating the intricate pathways of manhood. The Woman’s National Democratic Club is proud to exhibit “Painting Life Vividly” by Noreene Janus. A contemporary artist from Falls Church, Virginia, Janus is known for her large-scale abstract paintings filled with bold colors and striking lines. She finds inspiration from her international work and travel, specifically in Latin America. The dramatic colors and composition capture the vitality found in the local art, music, and dance she experienced while living in Mexico, Spain, and Guatemala.
