We are delighted to welcome back artists Marina Zurkow, James Schmitz, Jasmine Murrell, Marshall Reese, and Nora Ligorano for a very special walkthrough of the exhibition Underfoot / Overhead. Please join us for an informal conversation with the artists followed by a piano concert with Justin Snyder.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
Underfoot / Overhead is a multimedia exhibition inviting new forms of discourse about the climate crisis. Creating a visualization of the impact on our planet, the collaborative generative video works of Zurkow + Schmitz are supported by near real-time data sourced from global meteorological and pollution monitoring systems. Murrell’s immersive installations incorporate organic material and found objects in her process of searching for truths – under the skin, on the ground we walk on, within the stories we tell and the lies we believe. Furthering the conversation in our Wasserman Works space are editioned works by Ligorano Reese, Andy Koupal, and more.
ABOUT THE CONCERT:
The Same Sky features pianist Justin Snyder performing a program in conversation with the works on display in Underfoot / Overhead, featuring music for piano and electronics by Raquel García-Tomás, Piyawat Louillaprasert, Yang Song, and Carolyn Yarnell.
Each piece on the program is an aural distillation of the four classical elements: earth, air, wind, and fire. The title work The Same Sky holds up a mirror to our humanity and the awe-inspiring fact that all eight billion of us share the same sky.
