Who is performing?

DJ Deks spins live all evening. Artist Amaya Yoshikawa runs the art-making stations. The Juice Goddess brings fresh juice and drinks. Stevan Bosanac from the Life on Art team leads the Heart Talisman station.

What art activities are there?

You can make your own artist trading card, add to the weaving wall, make a heart talisman, and browse coloring pages worth keeping. All supplies are included. No experience needed — everything is drop-in and guided.

Homemade pozole served with tostadas and fresh salsas, chilaquiles, fresh juice from the Juice Goddess, snacks, and light beverages. Some items available for purchase.

Can I just come to watch the gallery without doing art?

Yes — the gallery is open all evening. Unbound, a large-scale papier-mâché installation made by residents and staff at Napa State Hospital, is on view throughout the night.

What is the Freedom Festival?

Art, Rhythm & Eats is part of the Freedom Festival — a 15-day series running Juneteenth through July 4th, created by Dr. Raquell Holmes and improvscience. Events happening across Sonoma County and beyond celebrate what freedom looks, sounds, and feels like when real people make it together.

Is this part of a larger series?

Yes. This is one of three Life on Art Freedom Festival events. The third is Free to Be: An Open Mic Night on Sunday June 28, 3–5 PM, also at 133 Copeland Street. Free and all ages.

What should I bring?

Just yourself. Art supplies are provided. Comfortable shoes recommended — the space is gallery style, lots of standing and moving around.

Life on Art is a Petaluma-based nonprofit that brings participatory artmaking into the places people least expect it — correctional facilities, psychiatric hospitals, transitional housing, and schools. We believe that making art together is one of the most powerful tools we have.
