Art Meditation Practice

May 4, 10:00 - 11:00am

Facilitator: Lilis K'Dair

Participants will be guided through a meditative practice that incorporates simple, repetitive art activities meant to facilitate centering, mindfulness, and letting go. We will use materials that are relatively inexpensive or can be found around the house so that participants can use what they have learned to continue practicing art meditation at home on their own. This series of events is intended to:

  • develop a meditation community at Arts Lab that meets regularly and in-person
  • showcase art as a tool that can help us slow down and tune into our body and senses as we touch, hold, and manipulate materials
  • give us space to get curious about things bigger than ourselves, explore universal truths of the human experience, and embrace the unknown

About the Facilitator

Lilis K'Dair is an Arts Lab juried artist with a studio in Huntingtown, Maryland, who works primarily in encaustic mixed media and stained glass. Though more commonly known around the Lab as the Arts Administrator - and by her legal name, Sarah Dohne - she welcomes and even encourages her artist friends to call her Lilis. She is an MSDE certified art teacher, practitioner of centering prayer and Tibetan Buddhist meditation, and is a life long learner who firmly believes that in order to understand and care for our world and for other people, we must understand and take good care of ourselves.

About Arts Lab of South County

Vision: To create a vibrant, nationally recognized arts destination in Southern Anne Arundel County, Maryland, where everyone can experience the life changing impact of creative expression.

Arts Lab of South County operates as a workspace where artists can create their own work and share the experience with others. Arts Lab provides dynamic interactions with the arts through our community of visual artists, open studio tours, and programs. Through our artist members and guest artists, we offer art up close, in person, and in progress. Artists work in oil paint, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, pencils, glass, ceramic, metal/jewelry, fiber arts, stone, plastic and more. We aim to create value for Southern Anne Arundel County residents through classes, lectures, and other community events.

Arts Lab of South County is supported in part by the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County, Maryland State Arts Council, Chesapeake Crossroads Heritage Area, Dippel & Co., and Herrington Harbour North.
