Visitors are invited to join the teams on Saturday August 19 starting at 7:00PM for a closing exhibition, live performances, and party.

ART HACK DAY ECLIPSE BRINGS RISING ST. LOUIS TECH STARTUP SCENE INTERNATIONAL ART EXPOSURE
International art and tech event series, Art Hack Day, comes to St. Louis engaging 40 emerging artists for a 48-hour marathon hackathon and exhibition August 17-19 in a special Eclipse themed edition hosted in the @4240 Building in the Cortex District (4240 Duncan Ave), St. Louis’ technology startup epicenter. The event will showcase hackers whose medium is art and artists whose medium is tech. The result is diverse set of contemporary art and technology-related mixed media on display Saturday, August 19 7-10pm in a flash exhibition showcasing the collaborative work.
“Art Hack Day disrupts our notion of what “art” is and of what’s imaginable when creativity is sparked by the power of technology,” said Regional Arts Commission Executive Director, Felicia Shaw.
Art Hack Day has helped raise the profile of emerging artists in New York, Paris, Stockholm, Berlin, Seattle, Montreal, and San Francisco. The event now turns its attention to an emerging tech and art hub, St. Louis. The organizers aim to bring global exposure to the startup city and to drive art culture through innovative programming. A two day hackathon will be followed by a flash art exhibition featuring the work created during the previous days. On August 19, the flash exhibition will open to the public and press for one night only. The event series has been covered by ArtBerlin, ArtInfo, FastCompany, Hyperallergic, Make Magazine, The Verge, TechCrunch, and more. 
“Technology and culture are intertwined,” comments Jim McKelvey, Square Co-Founder and LaunchCode Founder, regarding Art Hack Day Eclipse. “As committed as I am to teaching coding skills in St. Louis, the first educational center I launched was an art studio. Creativity in all forms improves our world.”
Some of the participating artists at Art Hack Day Eclipse will include global street and stencil artist Peat “Eyez” Wollaeger, whose large scale signature EYEZ can be seen around St. Louis; self-taught indie game developer, TJ Hughes, is known in national gaming circles for design and 3D artwork; Zlatko Cosic, a filmmaker and video artist with sociopolitical commentary often used for projections and audio-visual experiences; and Paul Guzzardo is a designer based in St. Louis and Buenos Aires, whose work includes launching the first networked club in the 1990s and using new media to map the devolving state of the American public sphere.
“Each Art Hack Day has been a total success with unexpectedly great results,” said co-founder of Art Hack Day, Olaf Mathe. “Each city and the artists whom have decided to live and work in their context, create specific unique pieces. Art Hack Day is about finding the raw emerging artists, bringing them together, and seeing what they can do. Each city represents differently and I expect the historic aspects of St. Louis to shine through.”
Other participating artists include Betsy Ballin, Jonathan Bumstead, Carrie Carrigan, Chad Eivins, Bryan Dematteis, Maxwell Foley, Raven Fox, Eric Hall, Stacy Greer, Kevin Harris, Kylin Harrston, Ajay Kanna, Susannah Lohr, Kevin McCarthy, Anna Minx, Hayden Molinarolo, Mike Murphy, Tim Portlock, Travis Prowell, Evan Rodgers,  Robin Rath, Christine Stavridis, Paula Stevenson, Ben Triola, Andrew Warshauer, and Daniel Zajicek.
“Curating Art Hack Day is about setting the appropriate context for artists to collaborate, connect, and create work in real time,” said Art Hack Day Co-Organizer and Curator, Barry Threw. “Unlike a traditional exhibition or developing software, creating technology based art is an inherently collaborative process. Art Hack Day breaks through the daily grind of work to produce a complete show.” 
In the midst of an eclipse, what is taken for granted is called into question. Just as the darkness elicits wonder and fear, perhaps it also sparks inspiration. The world has been shadowed by the specter of crisis: political regression and entrenchment, the unrelenting weight of systemic oppression and inequality, unchecked climate change, the unknown consequences of globally deployed artificial intelligence, the ruptured boundaries of global capitalism; Art Hack Day asks ‘what agency do artists have to respond effectively? What roles does artistic inquiry play in illuminating the path to a more sustainable, just, and equitable future?’
