Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA) strengthens and supports our local artist community with resources, promotion and fellowship.Centered in Northeast Minneapolis, we serve working artists both here and in geographically and artistically adjacent communities. NEMAA has over one thousand members, and is best known for producing Art-A-Whirl – the largest annual artist open studio tour in the nation. Our events make connecting with art and artists accessible to an ever-widening audience, both locally and beyond the Twin Cities.

There is an unregulated power in the arts regarding gender and socioeconomic status for underrepresented communities. Native people are often unseen and unheard regarding issues that impact their livelihood and way of life. The main culprit is the appropriation of identity, arts, and culture. How do we decolonize the historical art canon and reimagine what existed on Turtle Island/North America?Join us for a panel discussion with leading voices in the arts to talk about the fallout of appropriation.
