The Graduate School of Education and Human Development invites you to join Apple and THREAD Research for an informational session to help you and your research teams learn more about ResearchKit.

Hundreds of millions of people around the world have an iPhone in their pocket. Each one is equipped with powerful processors and advanced sensors that can track movement, take measurements, and record information — functions that are perfect for health, education and social science studies. The sheer number of iPhones being used across the globe opens up new possibilities for researchers.
ResearchKit is an open source software framework introduced by Apple that makes it easy for developers and researchers to create apps for research. This new framework takes advantage of the sensors and capabilities of iPhone to track movement, take measurements, and record data. Participants can perform activities and generate data wherever they are, providing more objective information. Customizable modules make it easy to create a study, while developers are encouraged to build new modules and share them with the community. Together, we can drive the acceleration of real health, education and social science breakthroughs.

About the presenters:
Dr. Lina Lander is a Higher Education Development Executive with Apple Inc. She earned her Doctorate of Science (Sc.D.) from Harvard University and Bachelor and Master of Science from the University of Toronto. Prior to Apple, Dr. Lander was an Associate Professor at the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She has led numerous research and consulting projects in epidemiology, occupational health, surveillance, and evaluation of injury risk factors. As the Graduate Program Director, Dr. Lander developed and taught epidemiology and public health courses to masters, doctoral, and medical students. She has authored over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and presented at over 60 national and international conferences. Dr. Lander speaks internationally on utilizing technology in research, teaching, and clinical practice. As the lead liaison for research institutions at Apple Inc., Dr. Lander works on innovative projects to advance universities’ research, teaching, and service initiatives.
AJ Triano is an interactive healthcare marketing and technology executive who is passionate about connected health and the intersections of technology, social and health behaviors, health research and health delivery. His curiosity, passion for teaching, and over a decade of healthcare marketing experience has helped him drive innovation at THREAD Research, a division of THREAD. This division is focused on elevating the role of patients during research to drive medical breakthroughs and answer every human biological question by 2030. His team helps bring bleeding-edge technologies to the front lines of research, healthcare delivery and healthcare communication, as evidenced by their most recent partnerships with UCSF (PRIDE Study) and Johns Hopkins University (EpiWatch) using Apple’s ResearchKit. More broadly, AJ has been the digital strategy and UX lead for US and global launches of major pharmaceutical and medical device products, along with strategic healthcare education efforts to healthcare professionals, patients and caregivers.
