What is a SAR?

Sexual Attitudes Reassessment (SAR) is a very clinical way of describing a professional development experience focused on sexuality topics. When done with compassion and intention, a SAR is an extensive sexuality training and workshop for individuals who support clients in various ways in their work.

SARs are not only for people in the sexuality field, they are for all of us! If you work with people in a therapeutic, healthcare, educational, social service, support, or adjacent environment, you need a SAR. When done with an interdisciplinary approach, a SAR allows each participant the opportunity to examine their own personal beliefs, understand how those beliefs inform their work and identify areas in which they need to develop more cultural competence.

The ANTE UP! SAR is an experience unlike any other SAR or any other professional development experience. Moving beyond common practices and attempts of inclusion and diversity, the ANTE UP! SAR combines racial justice, disability justice, reproductive justice frameworks and practice with tools for self-analysis and embodiment. Participants are welcome to bring their full selves into a learning and an unlearning space. Our intention is to make connections, be challenged, expand, and go all-in for collective and individual liberation and freedom. In other words, ANTE UP!

The world we have inherited is not the same one that we were trained in to do this work. It’s a different world for each of us and there is an urgency to make crucial decisions about the practice we have connected with and caring for other human beings.

The ANTE UP! SAR requires each of us to go all in and not half step when doing this work—it is for community members who are ready for a next-level experience of un/learning. We will explore how to identify how -isms may still manifest and unlearning as a lifelong practice. This SAR is a unique space to be honest about our feelings, where they are held in our bodies, and how they show up for us. It will help you identify internalized societal norms, challenge language and stigma, become more reflexive, understand your boundaries—as human beings and professionals—and communicate them more effectively. In all the work we do, we make decisions that have consequences, and this SAR will allow you to clarify your own path, grounded in your ethics and values, and step up to the challenge of facilitating more healing, resilience, and autonomy for the communities you serve.

Where does my money go?

When you pay for your ticket $525, 100% of event fee, goes directly to Bianca and Anne. There is a small fee from Eventbrite to manage ticket sales. This is an event and training that is by and supporting a fat disabled LatiNegra Puerto Rican femme sexologist (Bianca) and an independent sex professional (Anne)! This is economic justice.

Imagine statement

Imagine if we took all the best parts of what works in schools, community organizing, youth work, and justice work. What comes to mind for my bests include Freedom Schools, doula healing approaches, and justice frameworks. Add those together and put it in an education and retention framework. One that centers the whole person, physical, and ethereal parts; beyond social-emotional learning; a learning that’s guided by a justice theory. Then imagine what that could look like for adults who want something more, who are at the top of their game but struggle, who are stuck figuring out if another degree is needed or another field, people who have lost their drive for the work they are doing and want to be challenged, inspired to action again. Now imagine a learning space that brings many people all over together for a period of time to talk, build, read, learn, unlearn, and push one another to dream bigger. An expansive learning experience where we create webs of knowledge that will transcend borders. Then imagine completing a certificate that has offered you support in writing your teaching or community engagement philosophy, tighten your resume and/or CV, supports your publishing, helps you create a wellness/ self-care plan; basically ish that we all need! That’s what I want to create for all of us.

PHILOSOPHY

Guided by all the best components that have come from spaces communities created, ANTE UP! is a call to action and a guiding philosophy for who we want to be and the world we want to be a part of creating. Our curriculum uses social-emotional learning as early Freedom Schools in the US south offered, centering care and healing through common experiences and community support is what guides us in creating assessments and activities advised by a doula framework, the knowledge that there are other paths to justice not only one, and our value in media making for using the common phrase ANTE UP! to move all in for the greatest experience for all to win. We all must ANTE UP! for healing, justice, and liberation.

FRAMEWORK

The options for affordable and accessible Professional Development opportunities for adults and seasoned professionals rarely focus on long-term healing, facilitation strategies, and self-assessment for preservation. We are offering courses that act as intensive un/learning opportunities for each individual that will support us all. Our courses begin with a human rights understanding of justice and healing. We use a variety of texts to discuss and understand theory, practice, art, and community healing experiences.
