Annual George Washington Dinner

Sunday, July 14, 2024

6:00-9:00pm

Please join us for a fun and elegant evening in support of the Morris-Jumel Mansion, an historic landmark in upper Manhattan which was dubbed by Duke Ellington “the jewel in the crown of Sugar Hill.”

Enjoy dinner and entertainment in the Mansion and on the grounds of the beautiful Roger Morris Park. The annual event commemorates the July 1790 dinner hosted at the Mansion by President George Washington and his wife Martha for his Cabinet and their wives, including John and Abigail Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander and Eliza Hamilton, and others. This year, you can be among the guests.

The 2024 dinner falls on Bastille Day, the French National Day. In recognition of the historic connection between the U.S. and France, we will be celebrating the values of liberty, equality, brotherhood, (liberté, égalité, fraternité) that still resonate today.

To purchase tickets or tables of 10, please visit our Eventbrite page here. Sponsorships ranging from $750 to $20,000 are welcomed. Contact chughes@morrisjumel.org for more information on becoming a sponsor.

The evening’s program includes:

  • Remarks by New York Times bestselling author A.J. Jacobs, whose most recent book The Year of Living Constitutionally was featured on CBS Sunday Morning in a segment taped in part at Morris-Jumel Mansion.
  • Performance by The New York Baroque Dance Company.
  • Silent auction of delightful items… list to be disclosed soon!

The Morris -Jumel Mansion is a historic house museum that seeks to preserve and interpret Manhattan’s oldest residence, one that has witnessed the evolution of northern Manhattan from rural countryside to a dynamic multicultural community. Through historic site tours and education programs, the museum interprets the mansion in the context of domestic life in New York City, the influx of European immigrants to Washington Heights, the City Beautiful movement at the turn of the century, the life of the Jumel Terrace Historic District, and more. Morris-Jumel Mansion seeks to serve as a cultural resource for an audience of national and international visitors and, in particular, the diverse audiences of the City of New York.
