About this event

The host of this event is Southeastern Michigan Mud, Sweat & Gears 4 x 4 Club, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. Over the last two years we have donated over $14,000 to the Drummond Island Lion's Club and with your help, we look forward to donating to this great organization this year.

When can I register for DOA 2024

This year registration is online only (on Eventbrite) and is currently open to accept your reservation. Space is limited to the first 50 vehicle/driver registrations. You will be able to register until the drivers tickets are sold out or until August 11th at 5:00 pm.

Do I have to be a member of Great Lakes Four Wheel Drive Association (GLFWDA)?

No, but all attendees must follow GLFWDA Safety Recommendations, please see the following link for more information: GLFWDA Safety Certification

If tickets sell out, will there be a waitlist?

This year in an effort to streamline registration, we have removed the waitlist option.

Is my registration transferable or can I update my registration information?

If you find that you will not be able to attend this year’s event after you have already purchased your tickets, and you have a friend or family member that will be able to attend in your place, please contact the organizer so the registration information can be updated. If you need to make any other changes to your registration, please contact the organizer at msg4x4club@gmail.com.

The name on the registration doesn’t match the attendee. Is that okay?

We would like to have an accurate roster prior to our event. Please contact the organizer to have your information updated.

What is the refund policy?

Tickets are non-refundable but are transferable for the event. If you are unable to attend, please notify the organizer for assistance. We will be unable to make any changes after July 15.

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to participate in the event?

While we highly encourage all ages to participate in the event, all drivers MUST be over 18 year of age. Drivers and vehicles MUST be legally licensed.

May I register multiple vehicles and drivers?

You may register for multiple vehicles/drivers; however, if you are registering multiple vehicles/drivers, please complete one registration per vehicle.

Will I need to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes, please make sure you bring your printed ticket. You will need it during check-in.



Vehicle Requirements and Recommendations


What type of vehicle can I bring to this event?

In order for your vehicle to be allowed to participate, it MUST be a street licensed and insured four wheel drive vehicle with a low range capable transfer case. Your vehicle is also required to have a working GMRS (preferred) or CB radio and front and rear frame mounted recovery points. Please make sure your GMRS or CB is working before you leave for DOA. It is difficult to troubleshoot radio issues on the island.

Your vehicle is required to have a current Michigan ORV and ORV Trail Permit. Permits may be purchased at most sporting goods stores . You can buy them buy them on the island at Sunes Hardware located at the 4-corners or at Johnsons Sports shop. You can also purchase them directly from the Michigan DNR website by clicking on the following link: Michigan DNR ORV Permit. You MUST have your permits to participate in this event.

What is my vehicle required to be equipped with?

You will need to make sure that you have:

¨*Current auto insurance

¨*ORV Stickers (requires both ORV and ORV Trail)

¨*A working GMRS (preferred) or CB radio

¨*Front and rear recovery points frame mounted with grade eight bolts

¨*A secured antenna

¨*At least one clevis/d-ring

¨*A fire extinguisher

¨*Proper recovery straps (no metal hooks, minimum 20,000# pulling capacity)

¨*All lug nuts must be present and properly torqued

¨*A full sized spare tire

¨*Working seat belts for all passengers

¨*Tire jack and wrench

¨*A first aid kit

¨*All loose objects should be firmly secured inside the vehicle

¨*All open-topped vehicles must have adequate roll protection


What items are nice to have but not required?


The following list of items can be handy to have but are not required:

¨ Air down tools

¨ Winch, snatch blocks and extra D-rings

¨ Extra fluids (oil, brake, etc.)

¨ Flashlight with fresh batteries

¨ Close-toed shoes and/or boots

¨ Extra handheld GMRS or CB radio (just in case)

¨ Layered clothing, sometimes it can be a little chilly on the trail

¨ Small spare parts (spare lug nuts, zip ties, duct or rescue tape, etc.)

¨ Toilet paper

¨ It is recommended to have skid plates installed on the underside of your vehicle

¨ Sunscreen

¨ A camera and/or video camera (there are many memories to capture)

¨ Insect repellent (the biting flies at Marblehead and other areas can be vicious)

¨ A portable chair or stool for lunching

¨ Snacks

¨ A cooler with water or your favorite non-alcoholic beverage

¨ Lunch (we eat trail side each day)


Are there any items that I should NOT bring with me?

Yes. Do NOT bring firearms or alcohol. They will not be permitted on the trails. Absolutely NO trailer balls will be used for recovery. They MUST be removed and left at your place of lodging prior to trail runs.

If you haven’t already, please make your accommodations. The closer we get to DOA, the harder it is to find availability.


This event is on an island; what fees can I expect to pay to get to the island?

From the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, you will have two water crossings to make to get to Drummond Island. The first will be Mackinaw Bridge. The bridge fees currently posted are $2.00 per axle or $4.00 for a standard passenger vehicle, all other vehicles are listed as $5.00 per axle. The fee is collected on each trip across the bridge.

The second crossing to be made will be a ferry crossing from DeTour Village to Drummond Island; this is a round-trip ticket. Please see the following link for rates and ferry schedule: Drummond Island Ferry Rates and Schedule
