Maomao lived a peaceful life with her apothecary father, training under him as his assistant. Until one day, when she’s kidnapped and sold as a lowly servant to the emperor’s palace. She begins to hear whispers among the servants of a curse on the emperor's heirs who have all died in infancy. But Maomao suspects other, more human causes are at play. Her warnings catch the eye of Jinshi, a handsome palace official who promotes her to the potentially deadly position of imperial food taster.
