In 2014, Google added RecyclerView to the Android Support package, with the vision of it being a long-term replacement for existing widgets like ListView and GridView. RecyclerView is without question a much more powerful widget. However, it epitomizes the expression "some assembly required", as it needs a fair bit of code just to get to the level of what ListView and kin offer "for free".
In this one-hour webinar, we will explore what it takes to get a basic RecyclerView going as a ListView replacement, including populating the list, controlling the UI of the rows, and responding to click events on those rows. We'll even play around a bit with the Android 5.x "ripple" animation effect for when rows get clicked. Plus, we will peek at what other structures, besides a vertically-scrolling list, are possible with RecyclerView.
