About this event

Each year the evening prior to our Tell the Story Black History Conference, we hold our Ancestral Remembrance Celebration & Recognition Dinner. This year our theme is COMMUNITY & NEIGHBORHOOD.

    WHAT IT'S ABOUT

At this event we teach Black American Culture, because this culture has gone overlooked and many people think that Black Americans do not have a culture. WHO are Black Americans? We are called "Black Americans" and "African Americans" and "Black". We are the descendants of those who were brought to the U.S. to be enslaved and who stayed and created a culture and community that they passed-down to us and that today we still enjoy. A culture rich in delicious food, dress style, hairstyle, music, and dance.

Join us as we teach and share our culture through food and music and storytelling surrounding COMMUNITY & NEIGHBORHOOD this year.

    OUR EVENING TOGETHER

We'll sit down together to a wonderfully delicious meal, enjoy entertainment, hear stories from Utah Black American history, cheer our great Volunteers for the work they have accomplished this year (Sept 2023 - Sep 2024), and give recognition to companies, organizations, and individuals who have supported and advocated the furtherance of Black History in Utah.

    WHO WE ARE

We are Sema Hadithi African-American Heritage & Culture Foundation, Utah's only Black History organization. Our mission is the researching, teaching, and preserving of Utah's Black History -- ALL of Utah's Black History. We create original exhibits that circulate Utah and do presentations to teach Utah's Black History.

Join us for our yearly Ancestral Remembrance Celebration as we come together in COMMUNITY & NEIGHBORHOOD.
