What is a tequio?

A tequio in Mixtec culture or tequitl in Nahua culture is the practice of our Indigenous custom of work or labor in service for the benefit of the community. ~~

Volunteer with Anahuac in the spirit of working together to unite our migrant Indigenous communities with our traditional foods and life ways while bonding in our relationship with Mother Earth.

Learn about our farming practices while also offering your support. We are very grateful for your help in our tequios.

Schedule for the tequio:

9:00 AM - 9:30 AM: Welcome and sharing circle

9:30 AM- 11 AM: Tequio

Please only register if you are able to stay for the entire length of the tequio. We appreciate if you can please arrive on time since our welcome and sharing circle is an essential part of the tequio. Light snacks & water will be provided.

How do I prepare?

If the weather is cold and rainy, we recommend folks wear warm layers and water-proof clothing. If the weather is warm, we recommend wearing a hat and breathable clothing and/or use sunscreen to protect you from excessive sun-exposure. In general, we ask for people to wear comfortable, closed-toed shoes to work on the farm (boots, outdoor shoes , sneakers, etc.). Please bring a reusable water bottle if you have one. If you have a pair of gloves, you are more than welcome to bring them along. We do have some standard gardening gloves, sun hats and work boots for volunteers to use.

Please make sure you fill out our liability waiver before attending your first tequio with us. *Liability waver must be filled out for every person attending, including children*
