Discover the timeless beauty of East Asian calligraphy in this hands-on workshop.

We’ll begin by exploring the history, styles, and cultural significance of Chinese and Japanese calligraphy. You’ll then have the chance to pick up a brush yourself, starting with practice paper before moving on to special calligraphy boards you can take home as a unique souvenir of the experience.

No previous experience is required — just curiosity and a willingness to try something new.

About the instructor
Matthew James (pen-name 真秀 Mashū) has studied and practiced calligraphy in Japan since 2000. His works have received awards at national competitions in Japan and been exhibited at museums. He is currently researching the history of calligraphy at the University of East Anglia.
