The UCSF Bixby Center's Beyond the Pill program is pleased to partner with the Take Control Initiative to bring you this interactive in-person training. All staff are welcome to attend, including administrative staff, clinicians, front desk staff, health educators, medical assistants, nurses, and other staff types.

Contraceptive Guidelines, Best Practices & Updates (3 CME credits)

This session reviews evidence-based guidelines for providing the full range of contraceptive methods. We will review patient eligibility, compare and contrast side effects and benefits, and discuss common misconceptions and concerns about contraception.

Contraceptive Counseling Fundamentals (1.5 CME credits)

This session focuses on patient-centered counseling techniques and shared decision-making. Through interactive case studies, participants will become more comfortable responding to common patient concerns around birth control and counseling on side effects.

Trauma Informed Care (0.5 CME credits)

This session reviews principles of trauma-informed care. Participants will discuss techniques for applying these principles to patient encounters and review practices and clinic policies that uphold patient autonomy.

Contraceptive Care for Individuals with Bigger Bodies (1.5 CME credits)

This session will review weight stigma, the Health at Every Size® framework, and best practices and updated evidence for the provision of contraception for patients with bigger bodies.


Who is Beyond the Pill?

Beyond the Pill, a program of the UCSF Bixby Center, is working to transform contraceptive care by bringing our evidence-based training on the full range of contraceptive methods to healthcare providers and clinic staff throughout the US. These trainings focus on best practices and help people access all methods of birth control, while upholding their autonomy in reproductive health decisions.
