Strand Book Storewas born in 1927 on Fourth Avenue on what was then called “Book Row,” an area that covered six city blocks and housed forty-eight bookstores. Our founder Benjamin Bass was all of twenty-five years old when he began his modest used bookstore and sought to create a place where books would be loved, and book lovers could congregate. Ninety years and a move over to Broadway, the Strand is still run by the Bass Family and is home to four floors of over 2.5 million used, new, and rare books, a wide array of bookish gifts, and fun literary events held almost every night of the week. From the dollar carts outside to the Rare Book Room on the third floor, and cheeky graffiti-ing throughout the store courtesy of Steve “EPSO” Powers, the iconic store now stands testament a place for book lovers to explore.

Join us for an evening with Sofia Coppola to celebrate the launch of her new book Archive. In conversation with Lynn Hirschberg, Coppola will discuss this remarkable new publication, which offers an intimate, personally annotated, behind-the-scenes encounter with her eight films to date. This event will be hosted in The Great Hall located in the Foundation Building at Cooper Union at 7 East 7th Street between Third &amp; Fourth Avenue.Archive is the first book by Sofia Coppola, covering the entirety of her singular and influential career in film. Constructed from Coppola’s personal collection of photographs and ephemera, including early development work, reference collages, influences, annotated scripts, and unseen behind-the-scenes documentation, it offers a detailed account of all eight of her films to date. Mapping a course from The Virgin Suicides (1999), through Lost in Translation (2003) and Marie Antoinette (2006), to The Beguiled (2017) and her upcoming feature Priscilla (fall 2023), exploring Priscilla Presley’s early years at Graceland, this luxurious volume reflects on one of the defining and most unmistakable cinematic oeuvres of the twenty-first century.An art book personally edited and annotated throughout by Coppola, Archive offers an intimate encounter with her methods, references, and collaborators and an unprecedented insight into her working processes. Sofia Coppola has written and directed her eighth film Priscilla based on the memoir Elvis and Me by Priscilla Beaulieu Presley. The film stars Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi, is produced by Coppola, Youree Henley and Lorenzo Mieli and will be distributed by A24. Lynn Hirschberg is the editor-at-large at W magazine. She had the same role at The New York Times Magazine and New York Magazine. She was a contributing editor/writer at Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair. Her Emmy nominated video series, the Screen Tests, have won two webbies. She lives in New York City.
