Amplify Arts Learning Summit

Amplify is a partnership of arts and cultural organizations at the University of Chicago includingArts + Public Life,Court Theatre,Logan Center for the Arts,Oriental Institute, and theSmart Museum of Art.As a collective, Amplify is developing a new model of collaboration by building a networked education community. The collective offers extensive K–12 arts programs and multi-site field trips for students, as well as professional learning opportunities for educators.

How can arts education spark dialogue in a way that supports the next generation of artists by encouraging inquiry, ensuring agency, and empowering students to find their voice? 
The 2016 Amplify Arts Learning Summit is a gathering for practitioners and supporters of K-12 arts education inside and outside of the classroom. This summit features an exciting mix of sessions, peer exchanges, interactive art making, and performances designed to help us imagine new possibilities for delivering and supporting arts learning.
While most arts education conferences tend to cater primarily towards art teachers and other arts professionals, the Amplify Summit endeavors to engage all members of our school communities—teachers, administrators, parents, students, artists, and culture workers—to explore and share models, strategies, research, advocacy, and expertise that address important questions facing arts education today.

Lunch and peer exchange break-out sessions | 11:45am–12:30pm This is an opportunity for Summit attendees to participate in self-directed, small-group conversations around specific challenges they are facing or general questions/issues related to their work. Afternoon Sessions I | 12:30–2pm
Learning Together: Building New Communities of Practice Panelists: Jim Duignan (Stockyard Institute), Patrick Jagoda (Game Changer Chicago Design Lab), CoCre8 Teen Leadership Development Teen panelists from: UChicago Arts + Public Life's Teen Arts Council and Community Actors Program, ElevArte, Chicago Park District's TRACE program Research in Practice: What Are Your Outcomes? Presenters: Scott Sikkema (Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education), Steven Shewfelt (Ingenuity Inc.)
Afternoon Sessions II | 2–2:30pm  During these sessions youth artists will lead a variety of experiences for Summit attendees that would include modeling program activities, student performances, interactive art-making, and more.

Building a School Community Panelists: Jacqueline Edelberg (author, How to Walk to School: Blueprint for a Neighborhood School Renaissance), Shaz Rasul (UChicago Office of Civic Engagement)
Performance: No Child | 3:30–5pm Actress and Teaching Artist Patrese McClain re-creates her award-winning solo performance of Nilaja Sun’s play No Child
