American Gothic

American Gothic

Good Shepherd Episcopal ChurchBerkeley, CA
Overview

The Circadian String Quartet explores the sublime, eerie, and emotionally charged landscapes of 20th- and 21st-century American music.

The evening’s program includes Overture to Eurydice’s Defiance by David Ryther, Entr’Acte by Caroline Shaw, The House on the Rue d’Auseil by Charlie Doris, and String Quartet Op. 11 by Samuel Barber. Guest violist Elizabeth Prior will join the ensemble for the performance.

Founded in 2013, the Bay Area-based Circadian String Quartet is known for adventurous programming that bridges classical and contemporary repertoire while exploring cultural, folkloric, and narrative themes. The ensemble has premiered works by numerous living composers and earned recognition for boundary-pushing performances and original arrangements.

“American Gothic” continues the quartet’s tradition of creating immersive concert experiences that juxtapose elegance and tension, inviting audiences into musical worlds where beauty and unease collide.
