Webinar Description
Ambivalence, Miller and Rollnick wrote in the first edition of Motivational Interviewing, is “the heart of the problem” that MI was designed to resolve in order to help people build motivation and commitment to change. Research and clinical experience have provided new and important insights into the forms ambivalence can take, how the capacity for ambivalence develops, its varying effects on diverse individuals in different situations and its role in our lives. The webinar will discuss how evolving perspectives on ambivalence enrich the conceptual framework and clinical practice of MI and enhance our ability to enable people to change. Case examples will be explored throughout.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Learn about empirical and theoretical advances in the understanding of ambivalence.
- Understand how MI’s conceptual framework can expand to incorporate these advances.
- Grasp how the methods of MI can be used and adapted to work effectively with different forms and presentations of ambivalence.
