In the second part of FestivALT&#x27;s &quot;Complexities of Memory&quot; English-language discussion, we will focus on perceptions of the local Polish Jewish heritage from international perspectives. We will have four experts with us: Jason Francisco (USA), Edyta Gawron (Kraków), Jonathan Webber (Kraków), and Daniel Ljunggren (Sweden).
 
We will look at how Jewish memory intersects with Polish approaches, as seen by foreigners coming to Poland.
 
The panelists will unpack the complexities of Poland&#x27;s Jewish and non-Jewish histories and heritages, discussing both positive and negative examples of present-day realities that often surprise visitors, and sometimes even shock them. Some aspects have become so normalized that locals are unaware of their impact, especially on foreigners.
 This conversation will also be important from the point of view of the ongoing debate in Poland regarding the commemoration of the victims of the former KL Płaszów camp in Kraków. There have been unsuccessful public consultations, a strong polarization of residents&#x27; voices, and a controversial project to establish a museum at the site. All this will offer an important focus for our discussion.

Podczas drugiej odsłony projektu ALT Talks – „Zawiłości pamięci”, w anglojęzycznej dyskusji, poruszymy tematykę lokalnego dziedzictwa polsko-żydowskiego, widzianego z perspektywy międzynarodowej. W debacie weźmie udział czterech ekspertów: Jason Francisco (USA), Edyta Gawron (Kraków), Jonathan Webber (Kraków) oraz Daniel Ljunggren (Sweden). 
 
Przyjrzymy się temu, jak cudzoziemcy, przybywający do Polski, podchodzą do tematu pamięci żydowskiej oraz jej funkcjonowania w naszym kraju.
 
Paneliści będą dyskutować o złożonościach polsko-żydowskich i nieżydowskich historii oraz o dziedzictwie, wskazując zarówno pozytywne, jak i negatywne współczesne praktyki, które niejednokrotnie zaskakują, a nawet szokują odwiedzających. Do niektórych rzeczy tak przywykliśmy, że nie zdajemy sobie nawet sprawy z ich konsekwencji oraz wrażenia jakie wywierają, zwłaszcza na obcokrajowców.
 
Rozmowa ta będzie ważna również z punktu widzenia toczącej się obecnie w Krakowie i Polsce debaty dotyczącej upamiętnienia ofiar byłego obozu KL Płaszów. Nieudane konsultacje społeczne, silna polaryzacja głosów mieszkańców oraz kontrowersyjny projekt budowy Muzeum, będą przyczółkiem do pogłębionej dyskusji o dziedzictwie.
