Dominic Moore-Dunson performs an original piece in response to Martin Creed’s sculpture, Work No. 3398 EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT.

Celebrate the end of moCa’s exhibition season, which explores the essential question, “What is freedom?” with a performance highlighting dance as a liberatory practice. In this original performance entitled Alright? choreographer and dancer, Dominic Moore-Dunson, uses movement to respond to Martin Creed’s neon sculpture, Work No. 3398 EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT. Jazz musician, Tommy Lehman, who has developed the original score for Alright? will accompany Dominic during this performance.Immediately following the performance, Dominic and Tommy will be joined by Tizziana Baldenbro, Executive Director of SPACES, for a conversation about development of Alright?, improvisation, and the creative ways in which artists respond to one another's work. Envisioning the blank, white wall beneath Creed’s sculpture as space for response, Dominic’s performance will be sited in moCa’s Gund Commons. A limited number of tickets to experience this performance in person will be available on a first come, first served basis. Advance registration is required. The performance will be live-streamed so that audiences can experience the work from the comfort of their homes. Saturday, May 29, prior to Alright? Dominic will be leading Behind the Curtin with Dominic Moore-Dunson, a movement workshop onsite at moCa. Meet the Performers

Dominic Moore-Dunson performed eight seasons as a Company Member and served as the Assistant to the Artistic Director at Inlet Dance Theatre. As a choreographer, Dominic has received numerous recognitions. He was the recipient of the 2019 Cleveland Arts Prize’s Emerging Artist Award for Theatre &amp; Dance, a 2019 fellow of The Ann &amp; Weston Hicks Choreography Program at Jacob’s Pillow, a 2019 Akron Arts Alive! Outstanding Artist in Dance, a 2019 moCa Cleveland New Agent, and a 2021 Associate Artist at the Atlantic Center for the Arts #180 with Doug Varone. Currently, Moore-Dunson is a Research Resident Artist at the National Choreography Center at The University of Akron (NCCAkron) and helped to launch the Akron Black Artist Guild in Akron, OH earlier this year.

Trumpeter and vocalist Tommy Lehman is a native of Akron, Ohio and a graduate of Firestone High School, Tri-C, and The Hartt School of Music. Lehman blends his jazz background with elements of soul, pop, and world music to create a unique fusion of sounds. He has been playing professionally for the past several years, regularly touring, recording, and performing with Acid Cats, Nathan-Paul and The Admirables, Chris Coles’ Nine Lives Project, Alba Trio, Dan Wilson, Theron Brown, Bobby Selvaggio, Peachcurls, and others.
