This will be a brief review of information provided during the Mitigation Lunch and Learn in October hosted virtually for participating stakeholders. Will provide a high level overview of the three active mitigation grants (HMGP, BRIC, FMA) and necessary application requirements.

0930-1030 - Mitigation Planning and Forward Thinking – Phillip Cane

This presentation will provide a nexus hub relating all types of hazards, both natural and non-natural and how they can coincide. This is a thought experiment. What do natural hazards and emerging threats have in common? Is there a connection? To help illustrated this nexus, a portion described the emerging threat/hazard originating from electric vehicles. What’s their nexus to response and recovery, to terrorism, to industrial accidents, and natural hazards?

1030-1100 – Smyrna’s Generator Project and Lessons Learned – Anthony Gruerio, Smyrna Emergency Management Coordination Manager

Anthony will be presenting and building a conversation on the lessons the Town of Smyrna learned when being awarded a generator project for one of its critical facilities. The process undergone and the conversations had will be referenced with the hopes of reducing these shortfalls with other eligible subapplicants.

1100-1200 – Arcadis/City of Wilmington BRIC Project

1200-1300 – Lunch with Mission BBQ. Great time for build partnerships.

1300-1500 – Project Application Development Guidance Group

In a unique opportunity, a panel consisting of federal and state partners will be present to answer questions, provide direct guidance, making suggestions and recommendations, and providing some technical assistance with their project applications. Consisting of FEMA technical review, planning, and BCA specialists, along with Delaware’s NFIP coordinator, mitigation project officers, SHMO, and others, attendees are encouraged to bring project applications currently in progress to present to the panel and receive immediate direct feedback, or to bring an idea and potential future project for suggestions and areas of focus. Because of time limits and ensuring that all parties have a chance to present or ask questions, please notify Phillip Cane of intent to ensure you have the time with the panel.
