Douglas Vye will be presenting an introduction to orchids and their cultivation. Douglas has been growing orchids for more than 30 years and is a past president of the Ottawa Orchid Society. His collection at one point numbered over 150 orchids. His presentation will cover orchid physiology, natural environments, home growing conditions, and some of challenges with orchids. Douglas will hold a short orchid clinic after his presentation, and orchid growing medium will be available for purchase at this event. Enter the mini show contest!- Design: "A Star is Born" (miniature design in an eggshell) - maximum dimension in any direction (12.5 cm).- Display: "Winter Leftovers" - collection of branches, berries, dried grasses (5-10)- Bring &amp; Brag - Special plant, photo, flower to shareGift certificates will be awarded to winners of the Design and Display contests. This event is free for anyone to attend and refreshments will be provided. A recording of this talk will be available to members for free, and non-members can download it for $5.
