Celebrate Star Wars Day with us by learning about alien writing

Join us for an out-of-this-world online event where we explore the fascinating world of extraterrestrial languages and writing systems. Whether you're a sci-fi enthusiast, a language lover, or just curious about the unknown, this event is perfect for you!

With the recent surge of interest in what we know as “UFOs,” a renaissance of interest in this topic finds regular exposure. One of the more obscure aspects of this subject are claims of communication with nonhuman intelligence, or what are known in popular media as “aliens.” While most who say they have communicated with these supposed beings recall telepathic messages, these is a subset of accounts which involve written communication, either seen or “channeled” to the percipient.

Most of these witnesses are not aware that they are part of a rich history of supposed communication with nonhuman intelligence. Some of these messages are relayed in languages that bear resemblance to the individual’s native tongue, while others are more abstract, falling into recognizable categories of human perception and cognition. This talk will examine this history, as well as the work of the late Dr. Mario Pazzaglini, a clinical psychologist who made a private study of what he referred to as “received scripts.”

Our Speaker: Greg Bishop

In 1991, Greg Bishop co-founded a magazine called The Excluded Middle, which was a journal of UFOs, conspiracy research, psychedelia and new science. Wake Up Down There!, a collection of articles from the magazine, was published in 2000. His 2005 book Project Beta documented a government campaign of disinformation against a UFO researcher. Weird California, a portrait of strange and eerie history and places in the Golden State, followed in 2006. His latest book, It Defies Language features essays about topics surrounding UFOs and related issues. radiomisterioso.com features Greg’s interviews with researchers as well as scientists and academics who are involved in fringe topics.

Organized by

The National Museum of Language honors and supports language acquisition, utilization and preservation, along with linguistic and cultural diversity. Through our outreach activities and online resources, we celebrate the magic and beauty of human communication. Three major themes govern presentations, exhibits and programs:

  • Universal Aspects of Language
  • Language in Society
  • Languages of the World

We seek to lead others to their personal discoveries of language and languages.

To Educate and Inform

We undertake a range of initiatives offering “hands-on”, visual and audio exhibits, programs and presentations to educate, inform and entertain — the general public, school-age children and those with a deep or only a passing interest — on aspects of language, languages and language cultures.

A National Forum

The National Museum of Language brings together people from diverse language circles – academic, governmental, social, business, scientific, literary, technological – and provides a public forum through which they can focus attention on language as a human phenomenon and languages within broad cultural settings.
