Algae Yarn Workshop

Algae Yarn Workshop

Marieviksgatan 19bHägersten-Liljeholmen, Stockholms län
Thursday, April 23  •  5 PM - 8 PM
Overview

Join us for a hands on biodesign workshop where you will learn how to make yarn from algae and meet other sustainable fashion innovators

Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring algae (also known as seaweed) as a resource for innovative, natural, and biodegradable materials for fashion.
Algae is a plant-like organism that grows in water, and while many people know it simply as seaweed, it also has exciting potential as a future-friendly material for textiles and design. In this workshop, we will be using alginate specifically - a natural compound derived from algae!

During the workshop, we’ll experiment with turning alginate into fibre and explore how it can be used for knitting, embroidery, and crochet. It’s a chance to try something new, get creative with your hands, and discover how materials from nature can inspire a more sustainable and thoughtful approach to fashion.

This workshop connects to the values of slow fashion -> choosing creativity, care, and conscious making over fast consumption. Instead of always producing and buying more, we can explore materials that are renewable, biodegradable, and gentler on the planet. Alginate is one example of how fashion can become more innovative, eco-friendly, and closely connected to nature.

The event is organised by Slow Fashion Show and Materials4Future, and the workshop is led by Nina from Materials4Future. It takes place in collaboration with DoTank Center and Fashion Revolution Sweden as part of Fashion Revolution Week.

Come spend an evening making, learning, and connecting with others who are curious about the future of fashion. Leave with new ideas, your own material experiment, and fresh inspiration for more conscious making.
