Brother Albert C. Spurlock was a great brother who pledged at Beta Chapter (University of Illinois) in 1933. He was the first African American to win a track varsity letter after World War I. While at Crispus Attucks High School, Al taught Industrial Arts and rose to department head. Additionally, due to his love of sports, he coached track, cross-country, and served as the assistant basketball coach on the legendary team that won the consecutive Indiana State Basketball Championship in 1955 and 1956.

Brother Spurlock was well known for his various community involvements. His continued support of fraternal endeavors, be it through his consistent meeting attendance, involvement in formal/informal dances, and simply even staying connected to distant brothers, was a testimony of the way a Kappa man should live never parting from the fraternity & its ideals. Indianapolis Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi annually hosts this summer event named in his honor.
