Join us for an intimate conversation between artists Yasmine Anlan Huang and Dahlia Bloomstone.

From the dream of becoming an idol to the realities of affective work, both artists have navigated different social conditions while confronting the desires and expectations attached to youth and femininity: What's the difference between being desired and being loved?Taking Huang’s most recent artist book, Becoming Everyone Everywhere (2026), as a point of departure, the conversation between Huang and Bloomstone draws on co-reading and comparative reflection on their similar yet distinct moving-image practices to investigate questions of ambition, longing, age anxiety, labor, and the ethics of storytelling, while considering how these concerns circulate within broader social and cultural frameworks. Dahlia Bloomstone is a Puerto Rican/American artist and scholar and was a 2024–2025 Fellow at the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program (ISP). She thinks through social value, respectability, and moral regulation. She considers the politics around certain technologies, which function as stand-ins for deeper cultural and digital inheritances. She is currently most interested in “labor aesthetics”—in conjugating the surrealities of affective work. Yasmine Anlan Huang (b.Guangzhou) is an artist and writer based in London and Dubai. Through the romanticization of and within girlhood, she explores how coming-of-age narratives become sites where desire and violence both reproduce and subvert colonial, patriarchal, and capitalist expectations. Across languages and media, her work further traces how stories mutate through processes of translation, circulation, and reinterpretation, seeking forms of resonance that persist across geopolitical and cultural divides.
