Do I need prior dance experience to join?

Not at all! This class is designed to be beginner-friendly. We break down every movement so that dancers of all levels—from "never danced before" to "pro"—can enjoy the rhythm and have a great time.

Are there age restrictions?

This is an all-ages event. We welcome children, teens, and adults to come out and celebrate Sierra Leonean culture through movement.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable athletic clothing or dancewear that allows you to move freely. Sneakers are recommended! Feel free to wear green, white, and blue to represent the Sierra Leone flag.

Who are the instructors?

You’ll be learning from two incredible instructors: Sammie Deeno, visiting from Houston, Texas, and Ella, based in Washington D.C. They are teaming up to bring you a unique blend of styles and energy.

Space is limited to ensure everyone has room to dance! We highly recommend purchasing your $15 ticket in advance through Eventbrite to secure your spot.

Is this class only about Sierra Leonean dance?

While we are specifically highlighting Sierra Leone in honor of its independence, the class is a true "collab" that will also feature various Afro-dance styles from across the African continent.
