Who is Careitha Davis?

Careitha Davis is a K–12 dance educator, doctoral student at Teachers College, Columbia University, and choreographer whose work bridges Afro-Caribbean traditions with contemporary movement. As an instructor at NYU Steinhardt and a leader in dance education, she creates spaces where technique, culture, and embodied expression meet.

What is Afro-Caribbean Flow?

Afro-Caribbean Flow is a movement practice that blends the rhythms and grounded energy of Caribbean dance form of soca and dancehall with the fluidity and exploration of contemporary dance. It emphasizes musicality, release, connection, and the freedom to move between cultural awareness, body expression and improvisation.

Where is this class accessible?

This workshop is open to college students, community members, social dancers, and trained movers. No matter your experience level, the class is designed to meet you where you are and invite you into the movement.

Why is this class important for the diaspora?

Afro-Caribbean Flow centers movement as a form of cultural memory and connection. For the diaspora, it offers a space to reconnect with ancestral rhythms, reclaim the body as a site of expression and healing, and build community through shared cultural practice. This workshop is also an effort to sustain and support community Black/Brown-owned dance studios in New York, and contributing $50 from reveune to cultural organizations that preserve and celebrate the traditions of the African Diaspora.
