About this event

The Raleigh African American History tour begins inside One Twenty Wilmington St. This is a walking tour. This tour will highlight the real story behind the African-American influences on downtown Raleigh

There are stops at several landmarks, where your guide will discuss the history and legacy of the African American population on the culture and economic influence on the city. This walking tour is not your typical African American history tour, Instead, it is a history tour that discusses some unmarked places of distinction that shaped and transformed the downtown Raleigh city center. You will learn the actual history of the sites we visit.

The tour route is about 1 mile long, and the endpoint of the tour will be at the same place we start 120 S. Wilmington St. In addition, we will not be entering any of the buildings listed in this tour description.

There is plenty of free street parking on the weekends in the blocks surrounding the One Twenty Wilmington.

The African American Tours are approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes long but may be slightly longer depending on the size and speed of the group. Free water and a bathroom will be available at the start and end of each tour.

Finally, Please note that the vast majority of the tour should be fine for children of all ages. Walking tours in downtown Raleigh on various weekends throughout the year. Private tours can also be scheduled any day other than Saturday depending on guide availability.
