Saint John's In the Village

AEON Ensemble returns to St. John's in the Village to commence its monthly synaesthetic concert series. Each month, AEON will curate repertoire to reflect the artwork of St. John's in-house Revelation Art Gallery. The first half of each program will take place in the chapel followed by a performance during the reception in the gallery, where audience members can freely walk around, wine in hand, to appreciate the art and the sounds generated specifically for this space. Works by Hildegard von Bingen, David Lang, Lawrence Wilde, Meredith Monk, Pauline Oliveros, and others deploy classical conventions as well as extended techniques, channeling the standards of musical drama set forth in Monteverdi Madrigals while forging a new musical language for a theatricality relevant to the modern age. We've curated these works based on the famed phenomenal acoustics of St. John's and the photographic experimentation curated by Karen Rempel for her vernissage at the Revelation Gallery.
