Advanced Embroidery
This class will help you expand your skills beyond the basic stitches.
Learn to take your basic stitches and use them in different ways. Learn new stitches and how to incorporate the stitches in 4 different designs. During the classes we will be cover these stitches - running, stem, split, chain, buttonhole (blanket), satin, raised stem, bullion, french knot, whipped wheel, woven wheel, herringbone as well as a few others we will encounter in the designs.
As we learn new stitches we will work on 4 designs using 4 different types of threads.
Our first design will be a crazy patch using cotton and metallic threads and using stitches together to create a different look. We will learn the herringbone and the
broad chain stitches.
Our second project, will be Crewel embroidery using wool threads. We will use the stitches we know as well as learn new stitches.
Our third project will use silk ribbon to do Silk Ribbon embroidery. This is a surprisingly easy project after you learn the tricks of working with silk ribbon. This project also introduces some beading techniques.
The fourth project will be Brazilian Embroidery using Brazilian embroidery rayon threads. Bullions and different weights of rayon threads will be used.
Other things that will be discussed include embroidery fabric, hoops and frames, needles, markers, sources for designs and threads, framing your needlework.
