About this event

  • 3 hours

Is learning to ride a bike something you have always wanted to do? But maybe you are afraid to fall? Or maybe you think it'll be too hard? Or perhaps you don't know who can help you. We have the perfect class for you.

Join us at this class and learn to balance, pedal, and roll. We have excellent friendly and patient instructors who taught more than 300 people to ride. Those who attend will get a bicycling prize!

The class is held outdoors in the Berryessa Transit Center Parking lot at https://goo.gl/maps/fVTKaVZgM8XuTYHd6 (if it is NOT raining ) or in the nearby parking garage (if it is raining). If you drive to the class, there is a $3 parking fee there.

Prerequisites:

  1. Able to balance on one foot for 5 seconds
  2. Age 14 or older

We will cover different aspects of riding comfortably and safely to prevent falls - including helmet fit, bicycle fit, a pre-ride check, getting on and off the bike, and more.

Please bring a functional bicycle if you have one (see local bike shops if maintenance/repairs need to be done). If you or your teen need to borrow one, please include their height information (e.g. 5 ft 1 in or 155 cm).

We have a limited number of bikes available to borrow or rent for the class in the height range 4 ft 8 in - 7 ft (142.3 cm - 213.3 cm). Helmets will be available to borrow as well (sizes S - XL).

You can also see local bike shops for renting a well-fitting bike.

Other things to bring:

  1. Your helmet if you have one that fits you well and/or your size is outside the range above. Be wary of ones online not from a reputable shop that may not meet CSPC certifications.
  2. Water, and a snack if desired.

Parents/guardians do not need to be on site with their teens.

Please add a ticket for each participant (separate names).

Rental ticket transfer and cancellation policy: Please let us know at least 72 hours (3 days) in advance if you need to cancel or would like to transfer your ticket to the July 27th Learn to Ride class. Transfer and refund requests made less than 72 hours in advance will not be granted.

This class is provided to the public for free with funding from 2016 Measure B courtesy of VTA.

Baywheel Bikes available to borrow at no cost courtesy of MTC and Baywheels.
