Adopt-a-Planter Program
Register for the Adopt-A-Planter Program and help the Downtown Everett Association keep the flower program going strong! Although the DEA plans to hire a contractor to water all the plants, we are asking volunteers to commit to weeding and deadheading planters throughout the season. Through our pilot Adopt-A-Planter program, any individual, business, or organization can adopt a planter (or a few). You can even name your planter! We just ask that you agree to care for your planter all the way until autumn. For Downtown Planting Day Participants, you're welcome to adopt a planter (or a few!) that you yourself planted.
All plants will be planted on Saturday May 30, 2020. You can start caring for your planter(s) the beginning of June through the end of September. We anticipate that a weekly inspection and caring for your planter(s) will be required.

Flower Program Background
Due to budget cuts, the City of Everett shut down its flower growing operation this spring. For years, the city has grown all its own annuals from seed in a greenhouse in Legion Park, which were used in planters and flower beds across the city. Because the Downtown Everett Association considers the summer flowers to be an essential part of what makes downtown so attractive to shoppers, workers, tourists, and Everett residents, we have decided to rescue the downtown flower program by starting our own.
As recently as one month ago, a flower program was not something that was even on our radar. It was not on our work plan and not in our budget. The DEA had to act fast to purchase what we needed from the City flower auction at a deep discount. We are happy to report that we managed to purchase enough flowers for approximately 200 sidewalk planters, and now we need to get all those flowers into soil. That’s where you come in. Because of the rapidly evolving nature of our program and no budget, we must rely heavily on volunteers this year to make it happen.
Downtown Flower Planting Day
Help us fill downtown planters with flowers on Saturday, May 30! To maintain social distancing, we will schedule volunteers to come at staggered times throughout the day and work in widely scattered locations far from other volunteers. We will hold an orientation via Zoom a few days before, and everyone will be given detailed instructions along with their flowers, potting soil, and fertilizer. The goal will be to plant all 200 planters by the end of the day.
